Review of Ipernity
What is it?
Ipernity is a free photo/video/audio website host geared toward artists.
Recommended Use for Artists
A web gallery of your work if you do not have your own website. Like Flickr, it features community interaction and sends you an optional "What's happening in your network" email every week.
Copyright Protection
Ipernity allows users to set whether the uploaded files are all rights reserved, no rights reserved, or one of the Creative Commons licenses. This can be set as an overall default for all files and changed for individual files. Because Ipernity is lower profile than Flickr, it is less likely that people will go there to farm images; however, being a smaller company, their resources to assist members with enforcing their copyright are undetermined.
Creating an Account
You can register directly with Ipernity, or login using your Facebook, Windows Live, Orange, Yahoo, or other OpenID login information (this includes Livejournal).
Uploading Photos
Ipernity has multiple options for uploading images:
- 10 files or less
- Up to 100 files at the same time
- Upload a ZIP archive (all the files in it will be added to your docs)
- All medias from a Web page or separate media or file URLs.
- iperUpload: fast & helpful software (written in Java by Steve Cohen and compatible with Windows, Mac OS and Linux)
- by email or from your mobile phone (sends via an email address; be careful of how much your cell phone provider charges for multimedia messages!)
